Up early for the bus to London, only an apple and a bottle of water to keep me going, by the time we arrived at Reading services I was craving a hot bacon sandwich. The services boasted an M&S food, a Burger King and it's own coffee shops as well as a big fat fry-up stand. There was only ever going to be one winner, I waited in the queue for a lifetime, I noticed on the menu that there were only three options: breakfast bap, veggie breakfast, giant cancer-inducing half a pig and all her piglets fry up. Even the breakfast bap was £4.99.
The Review
The bread was dry, the bacon quite greasy and the price astronomical. I was hungry though, which may affect the scoring.
The break-down, scored out of a maximum of five.
Order placed
Me - Is it possible to get just a bacon sandwich?
Her - Bay-konn sanweech? Yes.
Me - Ok. One of those please.
Bread
two slices of white bread, on the turn. (1)
Spread
I took two sachets of butter and used one on each slice. I did not pay for them. (5)
Bacon
Pre-cooked, quite greasy from where it had been resting in the big silver tray. Some not quite as well cooked as others - if I hadn't already moved down the queue I would have specified the more cooked rashers. (3)
Sauce
None offered, probably available in sachets where I took the butter from but I don't remember seeing any (0)
Salinity and flavour
More salty than I would have liked, decent flavour. (2)
Price
£3.99 I would pay £1.50. (0)
Drinks offered
The services offered a wide array of vastly overpriced drinks, only available by queueing separately. (2)
